OUR STORY of Our Journey

The One Love Movement in DC began in 2011, from Preshona's family's house.  It then became community gatherings from Los Angeles to DC to unite the divided within us.

We set up in places all over DC - from the historic Soul 57 in the Trinidad community of Northeast DC, to Bloom Bars in Northwest and Howard University.

By 2018, One Love began focusing on our decolonizing education curriculum, I Am Sun, from Ikheem Ma'at's volunteer site at Wheeler Terrace Apartments in Ward 8, to the Benning Road Library in Ward 7, and ultimately at Sankofa Homeschool Community based out of Deanwood Recreation Center - and now the world.

By 2014, the movement focused on our local economy, by uniting our vendors into a traveling mall.

By 2023, Preshona's Ward 7 group house she was staying in announced it was going to be sold. Drawing upon all the rights she had as a tenant in DC, Preshona helped to form the 219 Tenant Association and worked to gather investors throughout DC to ultimately form the One Love House DC.

By 2024, Women of Color Hike & Sound Healing &  Sankofa Homeschool Collective came on as an official member and partner of One Love. Then came Harvest 2 Health, an organically-growing Black farmers' collective along the Eastern shore of Maryland, which grew to connecting with Black Tribe's platform via the beautiful Black Women Homesteading network.   One Love also opened up to building out a free online civics training program called The Peoples' Justice Institute with scientists, doctors, and activists engaged in environmental and social justice work. Our love grew.
